More Animal Ads

This time, there are definitely two errors in the following ads. My thanks to Ann-Marie, who works with me, for spotting these. Once again, the ads were in the Daily.

welner yews ad
The "welner pigs" should be "weiner pigs"; the second ad... well, either they're trying to sell trees and sheep or it should read "ewes". I think we know which it's supposed to be.

Two For The Price Of One

Two typos, two ads

These two ads were in (once again) Kelowna's Capital News. They're not headlines, but certainly qualify as typos.

I'd love to have one of the dogs listed in the first ad; I'd never be sick again! As for the second ad, what is a "heading dog" anyway?

The ads may be a bit fuzzy so I've transcribed them here:

"Healer Puppy, male, vaccinated, wormed, super temperament, ready to go to approved home $300. Vernon"

It should read "Heeler Puppy". We used to have one.

"Maremma/Akbash male puppies, guardian for farm/family. NEW ZEALAND HEADING DOG puppies......"

Shouldn't that read "herding dog"? I could be wrong; if so, please feel free to correct me.

ETA: It seems I was wrong about the Heading dogs. There is such an animal and I thank my sister Gloria for pointing that out to me. Thanks, Glor!

Let's Get Started!

Here's one from one of our local (Kelowna, BC) newspapers, the "Capital News".

eek out

One friend of mine looked at the headline and didn't really spot the mistake. It is, of course, the word "eeks"; it should be "ekes". Eek!

Welcome!

Welcome to Headline Hunters, the place to showcase newspaper bloopers. I don't know what your local newspaper is like, but here in Kelowna our newspapers are a great source of bloopers. They can be misspelled words, the wrong word, a word used in the wrong context, or simply bad grammar. Whatever it is, it makes those of us who love the English language wince or chuckle, perhaps both.

I've decided it's time to share some of the bloopers I find with the world. What about you? Does your local newspaper sometimes screw up? Have you found some gems? Well, why not take a digital snapshot of the bloopers you find and send them to me, along with your name, your city and the name of the newspaper in which you found the bloopers? I'll post the picture and give you the credit. Incidentally, it doesn't have to be headlines only. I've found some hilarious mistakes within newspaper articles and classified ads; they're all fair game.

Let's have some fun!
